Oil rig

Locating an oil "trap" and extracting the oil is difficult enough on land. But offshore, in deep and often stormy waters, it's a serious business.

Traps are identified by analysing seismic survey data but whether they contain oil won't be known until a drill bit penetrates the structure. Directing the drill bit to a precise location - perhaps several miles away - requires sophisticated computer technology. A navigation device installed above the drill bit feeds back information which enables the exact position of the well to be measured and monitored.

IA Technology has for some years been involved in this development, working directly for the technology leader, and produces test rigs to ensure that the electronics within the drill head will work when deep underground.

Test rigs involve complex mechanical and electrical integration to exacting standards. I.A Technology has demonstrated its inherent flexibility in tackling projects which aren't PCB and electronics based.
